Background:
Blacklight is contracted by a local private Nursing Home with the mission to provide affordable, professional, and personalised eldercare services for the needy and sick in Singapore whose focus is to cater to the sandwiched-class elderly who do not qualify for government funded homes.
Our client would like to extend their services and operations and are considering a variety of expansion possibilities and scenarios. As care expectations from the government and the population has evolved, they wanted to set clear goals on how they are able to better prepare for the silver tsunami and become a local force in caring for Singapore’s elderly population.
Scope of Work:
In line with their vision to be the leading provider of eldercare services by providing innovative, high impact solutions to improve the health and well-being of residents, the objective was thus to review existing initiatives and model of care, and to suggest the introduction of technology where applicable with the aspiration to be the Nursing Home of the future. This will include, but is not limited to reviewing and driving the strategic business proposals to pitch for upcoming government tenders.
Approach:
The first was to provide an overview of the sector in a ‘State of the Sector’ report, compiling market statistics such as total available beds by region, occupancy rates, as well as highlighting key partnerships in that report. The team also compiled a fortnightly newsletter of happenings from the region on topics such as model of care, technology adoption in healthcare, as well as productivity solutions in action to have a sense of how the competition is shaping up to be the care of choice in the future. We also had a discovery session of 4 focus group meetings with their senior management teams to get their thoughts on strategic direction of the company, as well as how they feel their work is impactful to the residents in their care. The 4 sessions were organised along 4 perspectives of operating eldercare facilities, namely – care delivery, health services, operations and infrastructure related processes.
Impact:
The impact of the consultancy provided to our client can be summarised in three main areas. The first is in the alignment of goals between the management team as well as mapping to the Ministry of Health’s vision for the Eldercare sector. This allows for the organisation to understand better how their strategy plugs into the national agenda for eldercare services. The second is a better synergy of their current activities to their organisational goals and national priorities. This allows for staff involved in activities to be able to see their impact and contributions to how the sector is growing and evolving. Last but not least, is a clear indication of priorities through the digitisation and productivity roadmap.
